Professional Development
“The real preparation for education is a study of one’s self. The training of the teacher who is to help life is something far more than the learning of ideas. It includes the training of character, it is a preparation of the spirit.”
—Maria Montessori, The Absorbent Mind
Professional development is an essential part of lifelong growth as a Montessori educator. In addition to providing opportunities to deepen practice, explore new research, and strengthen leadership, MI-NE workshops may also support the ongoing requirements for maintaining an active American Montessori Society (AMS) teaching credential. AMS requires educators whose credentials were issued on or after July 1, 2013 to complete 50 hours (or the equivalent) of approved professional development every five years, with the first five-year cycle beginning on the date the credential is issued. This commitment to continued learning reflects the Montessori belief that the preparation of the adult is an ongoing journey of reflection, renewal, and professional growth.
In addition to Montessori teacher certification, MI-NE offers two distinct avenues for continued professional learning: workshops and professional consulting. Designed for Montessori educators, school leaders, and communities, these opportunities extend learning beyond credential programs and respond to the evolving needs of Montessori schools and practitioners.
