Welcome

Why MI-NE

Montessori Institute – New England (MI-NE) provides quality professional development to individuals aspiring to become Montessori teachers and, further, provides instruction in an atmosphere of inspiration, helpfulness, sincerity, and respect for the adult learner.

Established in 1996, MI-NE has specifically designed teacher education programs that understand the unique potential and learning attributes of the adult learner. Our faculty and staff actively share this journey to becoming a Montessori educator with you by offering their expertise, knowledge, experience, and counsel.

You will soon become a member of a larger community, American Montessori Society, and a world-wide organization of Montessori teachers, parents, leaders, and, most importantly, children. On a smaller scale, you have become a member of the MI-NE program level cohort.  The cohort model is the cornerstone of our Montessori teacher education program, and a reason why our graduates are highly engaged and prepared for the future. This cohort is comprised of your fellow adult learners.

At MI-NE, we recognize Montessori pedagogy is translated into practice in all forms and variations. The cohort learning cycle is crucial to the process of becoming a Montessori teacher. Each week you and your cohort members will practice your assignments and lessons from the weekend class at each of your practicum sites. At the end of the week, you’ll return to class responding and reflecting upon your work with your children at your practicum sties- you’ll connect with one another and learn through shared experiences. With your cohort’s support, you’ll learn from both your successes and your mistakes.

MI-NE is respected in the community for graduating Montessori educators who are highly qualified and prepared for their work in society. Our graduates have gone on to lead classrooms, open new Montessori schools, travel the world teaching and lecturing, and share their talents and gifts with the children and families with whom they work.

A Lab School Environment

We are located on Boston’s North Shore in the city of Beverly, Massachusetts. Where it is a short walk to beaches and public transportation is only one block away! Many local restaurants are within a short drive or within walking distance to the School.

MI-NE is located at Harborlight Montessori School. The campus includes an Infant and Toddler Building, the Main Building for Children’s House through Middle School, playgrounds, picnic tables, gardens, and open fields. Holding class directly in a model classroom is essential to our philosophy of adult learner instruction. While adult chairs and tables are available during the instruction phase, adult learners also work directly on the floor or child-sized tables in order to authentically practice with the Montessori materials in the as the Montessori classroom teacher.

A full kitchen and dining room is available for our adult learner community. We want for our cohorts to make this their home-away-from home during their time here. Many local restaurants are within a short drive or within walking distance to the School. The practicum phase of the Course will be held at a pre-approved Montessori School appropriate to the Course (Infant & Toddler or Early Childhood).
