Montessori Teacher Certification Courses

Through a balance of academic study and lived practice, adult learners gradually come to understand Montessori as a transformation of the adult as much as an education of the child. They learn to see each child as carrying within themselves the potential to construct the adult they will become. Through observation, reflection, and purposeful preparation, the adult develops the patience, humility, and disciplined love required to accompany this extraordinary work of human development. In doing so, Montessori more than a philosophy of teaching; it is a way of living in service to the child and, through the child, to humanity itself.

Each course is designed to be completed in one year. The option to complete the academic coursework during the first year and undertake the supervised practicum during the following year is available. All remaining program requirements must be completed and accepted by the end of the third year.

Technology & Resource Requirements

To participate fully in the MI-NE blended teacher education program, adult learners will need basic personal computing skills and reliable access to the technology required for online coursework and communication. If using a computer or navigating online learning platforms is unfamiliar or you are out of practice, we strongly encourage you to complete a basic computer skills course through your local library or community education program before beginning the program.

Adult learners should have:

A laptop or desktop computer (Windows or macOS). Tablets and smartphones may be used to view course content but are not sufficient for completing coursework.
A dependable high-speed internet connection capable of supporting video conferencing and online coursework.
A webcam and microphone for participation in Zoom sessions, online discussions, presentations, and meetings with faculty.
An up-to-date web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge) and the ability to access the Canvas Learning Management System.
Software for creating and viewing documents, presentations, and PDF files, such as Microsoft Office or Google Workspace.
The ability to upload photographs, videos, and assignments as required throughout the program.
Access to a printer for printing course resources, reference materials, and album pages as needed throughout the program.
Three-ring binders and related organizational supplies for assembling and maintaining Montessori curriculum albums, handouts, notes, and practicum documentation. Adult learners should anticipate downloading, printing, organizing, and revising these albums as an integral part of their professional preparation.

Because the MI-NE program combines self-paced online learning, live virtual meetings, and in-residence instruction, adult learners should be comfortable using email, cloud-based file sharing, video conferencing, and Canvas. While faculty are happy to support learners in navigating course expectations, adult learners are responsible for maintaining the technology, internet access, and organizational materials necessary to participate fully throughout both the academic and practicum phases.

The Montessori albums developed throughout the program become a valuable professional resource that many graduates continue to use and refine throughout their teaching careers. Maintaining them in an organized and accessible format is an important component of the MI-NE learning experience.
